Situated in picturesque Dedham, right on the Essex-Suffolk border and in the heart of Constable Country, Milsoms is the flagship boutique hotel of our favourite local (Essex-Suffolk) hotel chain – a smallish property, with just 15 rooms and a vibrant bar and brasserie that has just reopened after a major refurbishment. What we like about Milsoms is the fact that their places are comfortable yet relaxed, and that they tend to have a good restaurant and buzzy bar on site too. This one is no exception, with stylish guest rooms that range from 'Standard' through 'Superior' to 'Deluxe', but which all have satellite TV, a mini bar packed full of complimentary soft drinks, free wifi and lovely indulgent en-suite bathrooms with nice toiletries.
There's all-day dining from morning till night in a large-ish restaurant, where you can just turn up to eat (no booking) and which is understandably popular with non-residents. There are lovely mature gardens outside, of which the feature is a giant 170-year-old redwood, and the hotel is dog-friendly too. All in all, it's a great choice for exploring this lovely village and the countryside around, in particular 'Constable Country'.
