St Fimbarrus Church
Fore Street Fowey PL23 1BU
Fowey’s parish church is an impressive sight right in the middle of town, just behind the town quay. Rebuilt in the 1460s after a raid by the French destroyed the earlier Norman church on the site, it was restored at the end of the 19th century. You can still see the 500-year-old wagon roof and rood screen, the pulpit constructed from a Spanish galleon’s captain’s cabin and the font that survived from the earlier Norman church. This remains a working church with services on Sundays and open throughout the week to visitors.
