Boat trips on England’s largest lake, Windermere, depart from the piers down in the lakeside village of Bowness. You can turn up most days and guarantee a trip – only in really bad weather are cruises cancelled – and the choice is between short circular cruises and the point-to-point boat services that run north to Brockhole visitor centre and Ambleside or south to Lakeside. All sorts of tickets are available, including hop-on-hop-off Freedom of the Lake tickets and combo tickets with other nearby attractions.
