Boutique Norfolk Broads country house hotel with a perfect riverside location

It's sad but true that there are precious few good hotels on the Broads, and even less with a riverside location as perfect as this one, situated on one of the loveliest stretches of the upper Bure, just outside the pretty village of Coltishall. It's a small country house essentially, but one that's boutique in scale and style, and which has recently been hauled into the 21st century by Formula 1 caterers James Holliday and Anna Duttson, who gutted the place and updated its rooms and bathrooms. They opted for a cool, modern (if rather safe) look for the each of the hotel's eleven rooms, but they're very spacious and comfy, and some overlook the grassy water meadows that stretch down to the river and the hotel’s private moorings. There are also three separate cottages in the grounds – ideal for families or couples who want a bit more privacy, and the public areas, too, are contemporary and serene, perfect for lazing around drinking coffee and languishing with the morning papers. There’s a nice bar with doors opening onto a patio and garden for sunny days, and also a classy restaurant that serves good, moderately priced food off a sensibly short menu. All in all quite a result for the area.
