The Weyside
Millbrook, Guildford, Surrey, GU1 3XJ
Crouched on a corner of the River Wey on the edge of Guildford town, next to the boathouse, the Weyside has had a few facelifts in recent years, but now offers decent pub drinking and dining in smart surrounds with a killer view across the River Wey, the meadows and the Mount (part of the North Downs). Some simple little touches make this place stand out, like offering al fresco drinkers a hot water bottle to keep them toasty while they enjoy a tipple, providing towels and beds for punters' dogs, and laying on little buckets of bread for people to lob at passing ducks. Meals are reasonably priced and generously proportioned, and there's a good selection of real ales behind the bar. Hard to find a nicer spot to tilt a beer on sunny Surrey day than on the riverside terrace here.
