Deep amongst the birds and the bees, the bushes and the trees of the beautiful Waveney Valley, not far from the Norfolk Broads, Wardley Hill is a simple rural meadow, a lush, six-acre space of long wild grass, ageing oaks and trickling streams. Joe and Holly started their campsite here in 8 years ago and it's a beautiful bucolic retreat on the outskirts of Bungay, with a mixture of pitches for tents and camper vans and a handful of glamping alternatives – or, as they prefer to say, camping for those 'too posh to pitch'!

It's an eco-friendly sort of place. The main field has been subtly sown with wild flower seeds, boosting the butterfly numbers; there are composting loos, housed in a shelter made from reclaimed timber along with a gas-powered shower. The site is as populated by wildlife as it is by people. Woodpeckers bounce along the tree line, while buzzards can be spotted overhead, circling in the thermals. Three small ponds are fed by a stream, trickling almost dry in the height of summer, while children can play hide and seek in the shady wooded copse.

Among glamping options there is a large traditional 'Touareg' Bell Tent , a stylish abode with all the comforts you require that can sleep 2–4, along with 3 huts of various shapes and size: 'Hilda' the  Shepherd's Hut and the cosy 'Hammock Hut', which both sleep 2 people, and the larger 'Tinker's' Shepherd's Hut, which can sleep up to 2 adult and 3 children. They all come with proper double beds with bed linen, and all are furnished with an eye for detail and a real sense of warmth and comfort. The huts have electricity and basic cooking facilities too, and they all have solar lighting.  Meanwhile mown areas provide ready-made pitches for tents, and you can also pitch in the small wooded areas that surround the site, using your own tent or a ready-made 'tree-tent' strung between the boughs.

Wooden chairs are provided for evening hours around the firepit – actually ingeniously converted washing machine drums – and the site is also well placed to enjoy the Waveney River, drifting by canoe, kayak or sailing boat. Plus nearby Bungay and Beccles offer multiple small-town attractions. You would be excused, however, for not being in a rush to go anywhere, kicking back instead to enjoy the pleasures close at hand: nature, seclusion and a crackling campfire.

The Owner Says

The Tiny House, Tinkers Hut, Tree Tent and Touareg Bell Tent form the 'Too Posh to Pitch' collection at Wardley Hill Campsite. Each one has its own character stemming from its position on the campsite.
The Tree Tent is for the adventures who perhaps already have some camping experience. Guests are rewarded with a unique nights sleep with the option of gazing directly at the stars. The tent is situated in the woods on the edge of the campsite.
The Touareg Tent, great for families of 4 or couples is at the heart of the campsite. This is the traditional glamping set up with a comfortable king size bed and cotton bedding. Alfresco cooking on the superb swinging grill under the gently swaying Willows is what it's all about.
The Tinkers Hut is a shepherds hut gone large. A spacious cabin on wheels, the Tinkers Hut sleeps upto 2 adults and 2 children. The Deck is perfect for a chilled sun downer and demands great views of the 6 acre camping meadow.
On the very periphery of the campsite is the Tiny House with its very own private garden and pond. This cabin has everything a couple could need for a relaxing break.
