Warwickshire
If anywhere can claim to be the 'Heart of England', it is probably Warwickshire, a landlocked but diverse county to the south of Birmingham that is probably best known for being the home of William Shakespeare – something it quite rightly makes the most of, particularly in the Bard's birthplace of Stratford-Upon-Avon, a busy and attractive town that is one of the cultural hubs of the West Midlands. But there's more to Warwickshire than that, with historic Warwick and its magnificent castle, royal Leamington Spa and its motor museum, Coventry and its amazing modern cathedral, together with a host of family-friendly attractions and plenty of attractive countryside in between, merging into the Cotswolds in its southern reaches. Naturally, in a county well used to tourism and also steeped in history, Warwickshire also has lots of great places to stay, from boutique hotels to cosy country inns, cottages and the occasional glamping retreat.
