Fowey
A picturesque harbour town on the south coast of Cornwall, Fowey sits on the west bank of the Fowey estuary amid some of the UK’s most captivating countryside. It’s a worthwhile destination in its own right, and you can wander the narrow winding streets of the old town, browse the many individual galleries and shops, enjoy some of the finest fresh seafood and take a trip upriver by boat. But there are also plenty of things to do and see in the surrounding area. The pretty village of Polruan is a ferry-ride across the estuary, and the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan, are only a short drive away – not to mention some fantastic beaches. Fowey has a surprising number of places to stay for such a small town, with a wide range of accommodation options. Many of the pubs double as B&Bs and a cluster of hotels vie for the best views of the harbour. At the top of the scale you can find a couple of newly refurbished boutique hotels, while those on a budget will prefer the YHA hostel, a Georgian building where you can also rent bikes. If you're hoping to feel right in the heart of the countryside, you might enjoy one of the two campsites, well within walking distance of the town, or one of many self-catering options in the countryside around.

Eat and Drink
Fowey has some first rate restaurants, and while most focus on seafood and British cuisine, you'll also find influences from France, Italy, China and Malaysia. All have fantastic views and a pleasant atmosphere, though they are generally at the higher end of the price-range. Fowey is also furnished with great pubs, worth a lingering drink as you enjoy the surrounding landscape. If you're in search of nothing more than a light bite, the delis and cafes should suit you perfectly. These little tearooms are ideal places to enjoy the freshest of foods with ingredients sourced from the local area.
Things to Do
Dubbed the '8th Wonder of the World', the most famous attraction in Fowey has to be the nearby Eden Project, host to over 13 million visitors in the last ten years. The history of the surrounding landscape sees it dotted with interesting buildings such as Restormel Castle, Polruan Blockhouse or the Lanhydrock country estate. Strung together these destinations make for an interesting walk and the 27 mile Saints Way is a great way to take in the scenery. There are plenty of outdoor activities and sports in and around the harbour area, you can rent a canoe or sailing boat, or simply kick back on a beach and enjoy the sun, hopefully!
Shop
Most shops follow the seaside theme, with a few small art galleries displaying local artwork that aims to capture the beauty of this picturesque coastline. Jo Downs Glass is also set up in town and is said to have the reputation of being the world's most successful fused glass artist. They sell stunningly crafted glass pieces, ideal for a quirky gift. If its food you're after, you won't struggle to find fresh fish in Fowey, along with other local produce in shops like Mr Kittow's Butchers and the Middleton's of Fowey Fudge Shop.
