The Kilcot Inn

Parents will tell you that all a pub needs to be über-cool is a dirty great space out the back where the kids can run wild, better still if there’s a mini-playground and some benches where mum and dad can perch. Step forward The Kilcot Inn, a pretty, privately owned country pub smack-bang on the Herefordshire/Gloucestershire border, 7 miles from Ross on Wye. Inside there’s a small bar if you want just a drink and chat, or a larger restaurant if you’re making a night of it. The food has flair, with daily specials and a menu of favourites such as fish and chips and Herefordshire steak, plus unusual fare like ostrich burgers or bean and leek burgers. Children, vegetarians and vegans are well catered for. The bar serves local beers and ciders, and the wine list includes vegan, organic and natural wines. Upstairs are 4 nicely furnished, modern en-suite rooms with all the trimmings - tea and coffee, TV, sofa and bathroom amenities. Thoughtful touches include a covered cycle shed so guests can store their bikes safely and pet friendly areas with water bowls and dog biccies.
