The seclusion, sustainability and sensational views of Kelker Well Roundhouse are the reward for a 10-minute walk from where you park your car. This cosy roundhouse, with its wood-fired hot tub, log burner and location two fields from the nearest neighbour, is best suited to those who love the outdoors. It sits on an upland farm on the edge of Farleton Knott in South Lakeland – a 15-minute drive from not one but two national parks: the Lake District in one direction, the Yorkshire Dales in the other; and the wild beaches at the top of Morecambe Bay are a similar distance away. It's both a tucked-away base from which to discover these destinations and also somewhere to simply unwind amid the glorious scenery and wildlife that's right on your doorstep.

From hammocks to binoculars, the roundhouse is kitted out with everything you might need for your stay. And for the things you need to bring with you, a complimentary quad bike luggage transfer is available. That makes the journey to your accommodation easier and sets the tone for your stay on the farm. This is a place to relax and switch off from daily, busy life. The roundhouse is nestled under Hutton Roof Crags, a Site of Special Scientific Interest with local deer, badgers, tawny owls, hares and buzzards (to name but a few) all found here. Have your camera ready for wildlife, sunset views and dark sky stars! Inside the roundhouse, you’ll find the circular part of your holiday home is an open-plan living and dining room combined with a kitchenette and a log burner. The bedroom is one little extension, the en-suite bathroom leading to the hot tub is another. It has both an inside and outside compost toilet and the whole thing is off-grid, aimed at providing a sustainable place to stay that protects as well as promotes the countryside, while supporting the work of the farm.

Your host here is farmer’s daughter Adele. Her dad’s small dairy and sheep farm produces and sells cheese, eggs and raw milk, all of which you’ll get a taste of thanks to a complimentary welcome pack (which also includes bubbly and ice for the hot tub!). Adele offers recommendations for local things to do, from the walk up Farleton Knott and nearby Newbiggin Crags to a tour of Kendal, 10 miles away. It’s the gateway to the southern Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and Morecambe Bay and all the many and varied experiences they offer.
