So if you're looking to try something different – coasteering maybe? Or a climb on the Lake District Via Ferrata – or just badly need to scare yourself silly, here are our top adrenaline adventures in the UK. Hold on tight!
Nae Limits
Nae Limits are pros at showcasing the exhilarating whitewater sports on offer in Highland Perthshire. Try anything from whitewater rafting and kayaking to river tubing, where you get to float and bash your way down a river using an inner tube.
Zip World
Some people may think ziplining down a slate quarry at 100mph is completely nuts, but the folk at Zip World don't. At over one mile in length, it's the largest zipline in Europe and at these sort of speeds, it's also the closest humans can get to flying like Superman.
Extreme Academy
Newquay is one of the best places to surf in Britain, and these guys will show you why. They also offer a whole host of other fantastic watersports, including surfing, kite-surfing, wave-skiing, handplaning and stand-up paddle-surfing.
TYF Adventure
The guys at TYF invented the sport of coasteering, an exhilarating mix of scrambling, climbing, swimming and cliff jumping around the local coastline, so no one is better placed to introduce you to this fine adrenaline fix.
Afan Forest Park Mountain Bike Trail Centre
The Afan Forest Park has absolutely world-class mountain bike trails and once you’ve grunted your way to the high points of the various trails, there are superb views over much of South Wales and even across the Bristol Channel to England.
Highland Fling Bungee
Highland Perthshire's biggest thrill is at Killiecrankie, where a bungee jump marks the site of the ‘Soldier’s Leap’, named for a government soldier who, in 1689, made a superhuman leap across the gorge to escape a pursuing army of Jacobites. Game?
The Blue Lagoon
This former slate quarry has been flooded by the sea and has been left with impeccably turquoise blue waters. Naturally, daredevils and coasteering parties have found various jump points around the quarry, ranging from very high to terrifyingly high.
Via Ferrata
There's no better scary adrenaline rush in the Lakes than this – an Alpine-style climbing and scrambling experience that takes you up 2000 feet-plus on the old slate miners’ route to the top of Fleetwith Pike. Hair-raising doesn't quite cover it.
Lizard Adventure
Lizard Adventure operates on Cornwall's most southerly tip, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the English Channel. So needless to say, the adventures on offer here are epic.
