Somerset
An escape for the inhabitants of nearby Bristol, and a first taste of England's southwest for many visitors, the county of Somerset is a delightful mix of coast and country. From the shores of Exmoor National Park to Portishead in the Bristol Channel (we think there's a band name there somewhere), there are high cliffs, beaches and coastal walks to match anything further to the southwest, while rolling hills and sweeping moorland offer different landscapes for walkers and cyclists. The beautiful Georgian city of Bath is the undisputed cultural highlight, though Wells and its cathedral and the county town of Taunton have their own charms. And let's not forget Glastonbury, the world's most famous music festival – a Somerset fixture (well, most years) since 1970 – and cheese from, where else?, Cheddar. It's a holiday destination, so Somerset's accommodation choices are wide, from straightforward B&Bs to more glamorous country house hotels. Bath's lavish YHA hostel has had a major revamp and is probably the best budget choice around, but there are also rooms in pubs and inns, and some very enticing glampsites if you fancy a night in a yurt, bell tent, tipi or safari lodge.Best Places to Stay in Somerset Holidays – Accommodation and Places to Stay in Somerset I Cool Places
