This long-running village pub has offered good food and accommodation in various incarnations over the years. However, its latest reinvention as the Berney Arms – a reversion to its name in days gone by – is perhaps the most successful yet. There are five recently converted doubles in the stable block, and a suite in the old forge; they also accommodate children under 12 for free on put-up beds. The rooms are slick and contemporary, and the only thing that’s lacking is wifi – though it’s no great hardship to stroll across the drive to hook up in the excellent pub/restaurant.
