The UK is dotted with windmills and watermills , most of which have been retired over the years and converted as living accommodation. Luckily for us, some of these are available as holiday cottages. There's nothing quite like staying in one of these historic buildings, especially a proper old-fashioned windmill, where you not only get to enjoy the building's uniquely curvy rooms but also the often spectacular views from the top level. Watermills, too, offer a supremely peaceful overnight stay, where you can be lulled to sleep by the soothing sound of a nearby river.
