The Greedy Cow
3 Market Place Margate Kent CT9 1ER
This terrific deli has a very Old Town Margate flavour – a little bit vintagey, offering pared-down cool with a warm smile, and with a tangible sense of local pride and community. Regulars pop in daily for an espresso and fudge brownie fix, and it’s a stalwart on the local scene for a casual light lunch. The food, packed full of fresh local ingredients, is extremely good. Portions are huge, whether you go for a doorstep sandwich on fresh granary bread, a towering homemade burger with creative toppings, a flavoursome pulled pork bap, a zingy fresh salad ... as for baked treats, offerings change regularly, but if they’re doing treacle tarts or pistachio and granola white chocolate flapjacks, snap them up fast. Children’s portions are available, served “plain and simple” to suit the most discerning of little eaters. You can eat in, among the eclectic art, retro bits and bobs and mismatched, colourful furniture, or, on sunny days, plant yourself at one of the tables outside on Market Square – perfect for people watching.
