The longstanding deli and food emporium on the main square is Helmsley's favourite stop for fancy foods, gourmet items and treats. They have everything from Yorkshire ham to Belgian chocolate, and while there are plenty of famous international foodie things, they claim almost three-quarters of their products are sourced from within Yorkshire. That means, off the top of our heads, virgin rapeseed oil, ice cream, pork pies, relishes, cider and sloe gin, all from God's own country. It's brilliant for a picnic as they make up sandwiches to take away (open Sunday too, which is a real bonus), and we challenge you to walk past the groaning windows in any case without being lured in.
