Olde Ship Inn
Main Street Seahouses NE68 7RD
The classic old (sorry, 'olde') pub above the harbour at Seahouses is an homage to the sea. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but walk inside and prepare to be amazed as pretty much every inch is covered in nautical nick-nacks, relics, maritime models, curios and mementoes. With a floor made from ships' decking, and various cosy stained-glass and panelled snugs resembling little cabins, it's a mariner's dream. There are plenty of real ales, and a beer garden with harbour views, and the food is really popular – the sort of stick-to-the-ribs menu that you need for a day on the bracing local coast. For the best of the local catch, go for a fresh crab salad, smoked fish chowder or Craster kippers – it's all good value. Afterwards, you're just a few steps away from the harbour and the boats to the Farne islands.
