Some lucky local families have grown up with some of the world’s most exciting contemporary sculpture on their doorstep, displayed in the gardens, grounds and galleries of the enticing Yorkshire Sculpture Park, set in 500 acres of gardens just outside Wakefield (20 miles south of Leeds), and hosting iconic works by Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth and many other renowned sculptors. There are around 60 outdoor works to track down, plus special indoor and outdoor exhibitions, lots of signposted walking trails, a visitor centre and cafe. Fresh air and culture – you can’t beat it.
