Wardour Castle
Near Tisbury Salisbury Wiltshire SP3 6RR
The backdrop for Kevin Costner’s chivalrous romantic romp Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves, Old Wardour Castle was built in the 14th century as a lightly fortified palace. An audio tour (included in entry) relates the destruction during the Civil War that rendered it a romantic ruin, while magnificent carved doorways tell of former splendour and staircases spiral up inside turrets for views out over the peaceful Wiltshire countryside. Children will love to explore the grotto and castle rooms while the surrounding area has plenty of space to play or enjoy a picnic under the cover of the trees.
