Fetch up in Hawes on market day, Tuesday, for the best of Yorkshire's highest market town, and then get yourself another bargain at the local youth hostel, which has great views from its lofty perch above Wensleydale. It's a hiker-and-biker-friendly place with pine-bunk dorms sleeping two to eight, though couples and families are just as welcome and will find the prices pretty unbeatable, especially if you're looking for something with self-catering. Two of the rooms are en-suite, otherwise you share utilitarian but spotless showers and loos – top choice has to be room 13, a two-bedded bunk room, with its en-suite bathroom boasting a "loo with a view". Views from the dining room are pretty handsome too – there's a good-value meals service at breakfast and dinner – and like most YHAs these days, you can buy a local ale or some wine to go with your meal, though the town's pubs are just a few minutes' down the road. Or chill out round the barbecue in the back garden and take in more of the lovely Dales scenery.

Overlooking the bustling market town of Hawes, the hostel makes a great base for families, individuals and groups looking to explore the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. We have 52 beds spread over 14 rooms ranging from 2 to 8 beds, including two en-suite rooms. We provide a full catering service with a licenced bar or guests can make use of the well-equipped self-catering kitchen, enjoying the fabulous views from our dining room.

Get active with superb walking and cycling routes or visit the many local attractions including the famous Wensleydale Creamery, the Dales Countryside Museum, Rope Makers and Gayle Mill. There are many natural attractions close by including Aysgarth Falls and Hardraw force. The Yorkshire Dales has some of the darkest skies in England so on a clear night step out onto our patio and gaze at the stars.

YHA Hawes is available to book on Exclusive Hire from November to March, making it a great location for a get together with family and friends.

Getting There

The hostel is located at the top of a steep rise on the B6255 (signposted to Ingleton), just off the junction with the A684 at the western end of the village. There is very limited parking. If you're arriving by bike, cycle from Garsdale - 6.2 miles, on RCR10 Yorkshire Dales Cycleway, NCR 68 at Garsdale. If you're walking, the bus stop is 5 minutes away, on the Herriot Way. The Pennine Way National Trail is 7 minutes away.
