Bubbacue
12 Callendar Street Belfast BT1 5BN
Despite a sudden influx of 'American barbecue' style diners and takeaways across the city centre, Bubbacue successfully retains its slow cooked and perfectly seasoned barbecue crown. Corrugated metal sheeting across one wall and exposed bricks across the other give the surroundings an industrial feel, which is appropriate as the kitchen staff, all on show, are like a well-oiled machine. Orders are taken at the till, numbers are handed out and by the time you've grabbed your table, your senses are being teased by a mouth-watering, smoked platter of your choice (full menu also available to take away). The pulled pork is smoked to perfection, although I know others claim the beef brisket is best in show. Spicy sausage and ribs can also be ordered as a platter, while all, bar the ribs, are available as a sandwich if you're in a hurry or simply not up to the full 'works'. When you hear what's on offer, though, you may skip breakfast and cancel all plans for the rest of the day in preparation. Each platter comes with homemade coleslaw, pickle, cornbread and a choice of two sides (beans, creamed spinach, mac & cheese and skinny fries). Smother it all in Bubbacue's own range of barbecue sauces, and wash it down with a jam jar of homemade lemonade and you shouldn't need to eat for a week... Darn good barbecue, Bubba.
