Home Restaurant & Deli
22 Wellington Place Belfast BT1 6GE
Slightly off the beaten shopping track, this restaurant has nevertheless become so popular with a lunchtime crowd that it can be difficult to get a table (no reservations taken for lunchtime). It originally opened as a temporary pop-up restaurant in Autumn 2011 but fast developed a reputation amongst the city's foodies and relocated to its now permanent residence at Wellington Place. It still retains its pop-up feel, with the front of the restaurant housing the deli and tables for a counter service; more formal dining is to the rear. The lunchtime counter service menu comprises an impressive selection of quirky salads, with quiche, prawns and cold meats, freshly made sandwiches and homemade sausage rolls (check out the venison and black pudding ones!), and the friendly staff do an excellent job of making everyone feel as though they are a long-time regular. The main restaurant area attracts a lively lunchtime crowd – not the ideal spot for a quiet conversation or an illicit tryst – and serves a wide-ranging menu, with great fish cakes, pulled pork, sea bass and homemade sausages all making an appearance. There's also a good choice of accompanying wines on offer.
