Scapa Flow is one of Europe’s largest natural harbours, a sanctuary that attracted the Royal Navy in both world wars. Dozens of ships, both British and German, were either sunk or scuttled here, making it nowadays one of the world’s great dive sites. Dry suits are essential, as is a certain amount of experience – wreck dives are inherently dangerous here and many are both confusing to navigate and unstable. But Scapa Flow Diving are one of the most dependable outfits and if you wish you can opt to live aboard with the scuba dive operator. Be aware that some of the wrecks are designated war graves.
