Inveraray
Argyll & Bute
Perhaps the most attractive of all the Argyll towns, and the ancestral home of the Dukes of Argyll, Inverary is a whitewashed beauty that lies right on the shores of Loch Fyne. There are twee shops, a tourist office, little cafes and a major tourist attraction in Inveraray Jail, which gives all the family a taste of British justice and punishment far removed from the 20th century. The ancestral seat, Inveraray Castle, is a splendid pile well worth visiting, too, and you should look out for a plethora of summer events including medieval fairs and rock concerts.
