Brodick Highland Games

Arran may not strictly speaking be in the Highlands, but it's home to one of the most enjoyable and engaging Highland Gatherings in Scotland, when every August thousands of competitors, bands and spectators descend on this island town. Competition is fierce – and watching fun – with all the traditional Highland sports on show. Highland dancing is also a large part of the Games, as is music, with the pipes and drums to the fore. There's a real carnival feel, with many of the locals taking the opportunity to really let their hair down. Not to be missed if you're here at the right time of year.
