Like Chestnut's other properties, (including the nearby Moulton Packhorse), The Three Blackbirds is the sort of place you'll like if you favour pubs with a modern twist. It has been carefully updated, retaining the best of its original features, with bare brick walls, beams and ancient fireplaces, but with splashes of colour and retro furniture that remind you it's the 21st century. The rooms are in a purpose-built barn next door, and include regular doubles and family rooms, some of which are dog friendly; five are on the ground floor, three on the first floor, and they all come with super-king-size beds with high-quality mattresses, decent-sized Smart TVs, fast wifi and tea and coffee-making facilities – and spacious bathrooms with rainfall showers and Bramley toiletries. As for the food, it's a deliberately classic and rather delicious menu, focusing on local and seasonal produce, including hearty delights like pigs head terrine and cider-braised pork alongside crowd-pleasing favourites like fish and chips and a very special Newmarket sausage and mash with red onion gravy. Breakfast is an equally satisfying, plate-service affair, while they even have a menu for dogs, featuring items to gnaw, chew and drink. They also boast a private dining room – The Gun Room – so are well set up for parties and meetings.
Finally there's the location, which is perfect for visiting Newmarket – the town is just a couple of miles to the north of the pub – but also very handy for both Cambridge and Bury St Edmunds, which are only 20 minutes' away by car, as is the Imperial War Museum at Duxford. Whether you're interested in these places or not, it's nice to have them on your doorstep, but the real draw of the Three Blackbirds is that it's only an hour or so's drive from London. We couldn't think of a much better place to wind up on a Friday night.

The Owner Says
A warm welcome to our much-loved 17th Century village pub in Woodditton, situated in the picturesque heart of horse racing country near Newmarket.Following a devastating fire in 2018, we worked tirelessly to bring this fantastic building back to life ensuring we retained its charm whilst adding a few modern twists and bursts of colour. And, we were able to add 9 new bedrooms in The Barn – so you can stay even longer! The result (we hope!) is, a cosy, relaxed setting to kick off your boots, wellies or otherwise - enjoying time with friends and family. We are foodies at heart – so expect to find pub classics as well as a regularly changing menu that focuses on our local access to amazing meats, award winning cheeses and the best Fenland veg.
