Recently voted the 'Best Pub in Shropshire' at the National Pub Awards, The Lion at Leintwardine is situated in a beautiful, quiet country setting, on the Shropshire/Herefordshire border, overlooking the Welsh Marches. Sitting peaceably at the spot where the rivers Clun and Teme meet, this place offers tranquility, a smiling welcome from staff, and a great choice of pleasurable private spaces to eat, drink and relax.
Owners William and Jane restored the building to its current form, and interiors are stylish, characterful, and beautifully furnished with leather sofas, tub chairs, eclectic coffee tables, chandeliers and lamps. The historic photographs on the walls and fresh flowers finish the look off nicely. There's a snug, a lounge bar, the dog-friendly top bar and the restaurant, while you can also enjoy your food al fresco on the walled terrace, or in the garden with benches on the bank of the river, overlooking the old Grade II listed Leintwardine Bridge. There's a superb apex-roofed, wooden-beamed breakfast room too.
The food is Modern British cuisine, made from produce from an impressive list of local suppliers, and is absolutely delicious. There are several menus from which to choose: a main menu (for lunch and dinner), specials, sandwich menu, Sunday lunch, and Tuesday steak selections. Local ciders and real ales are on tap.
The eight charming en-suite rooms are traditionally styled with dark-wood classic furnishings, ornate mirrors and lamps, and quality linens. Bathrooms are gorgeous and spacious (some have shower rooms).
