Higginson Park
Marlow Buckinghamshire SL7 2AE
Named after George Higginson, who campaigned in 1826 to keep this land free from building, Marlow's riverside park slopes down to the Thames and offers a variety of amusements. Court Gardens houses the leisure centre, with its swimming pool and gym facilities. There’s a theatre – keep an eye open for local plays, light operas and concerts – and a small museum opens at weekends. A good, modern café adjoins the very popular children’s playground, and you can hire boats or take a French Brothers cruise. Cricket matches are played in the summer, and the rest of the time families can picnic, kick a ball about or feed the swans. Many events take place during the year, including the French market and the Town Regatta and dragon boat festival – a fun and less frenzied rival to nearby Henley's.
