Oak Bistro
6 Lensfield Road Cambridge CB2 1EG
Set in a Grade II listed building, this former inn apparently took its name from an old oak tree that once stood on the site, the wood of which was used in the building. Gutsy, classic Modern European flavours feature in what is now a stylish bistro: mushroom risotto with truffle oil, black sea bream with Mediterranean veggies, homemade fishcakes with salsa or lamb shank and mash. Add in good-value set lunches, a relaxed vibe and a small courtyard and you have a local secret. The bistro is nicely located just around the corner from Parker's Piece but far enough from the real core of the city to avoid big crowds in the summer.
