Fitzwilliam Museum

Superb antiquities – Egyptian, Greek and Roman – and a blockbuster gallery of European art are highlights of a museum that would not disgrace a European capital. There are also sections of sculpture, glassware, ancient Greek and European ceramics and applied arts from the Islamic world and Far East. Their recent Vermeer exhibition pulled in over 150,000 visitors, so keep your eyes peeled as they have a line-up of more crowd-drawing exhibitions on the way. This is also a fantastic family museum, with plenty of activities for kids to be picked up at the entrance.
