Oriental Museum
Elvet Hill Durham DH1 3TH
The Oriental Museum is the only museum in the north entirely devoted to the art and archeology of the Orient, which means varied artefacts hailing from Korea, Egypt, India, Tibet, Japan and the Islamic world. The mezzanine level specializes in marvels from China, including jade ceramics, laquerware and bronze pieces, as well as embroidered costumes. Bear in mind that it’s undergoing development over the next few years, so gallery closures and disruptions may follow though the intention is to keep as much of the museum open as possible.
