Beachside Restaurant, South Sands Hotel
Bolt Head Salcombe Devon TQ8 8LL
The airy, vibrant restaurant of the excellent South Sands Hotel overlooks a lovely beach and is the best place to dine in Salcombe. It's open to non-residents for breakfast, lunch and dinner (for which it's always best to book ahead). There's a long outdoor terrace where you can sit and watch beach life on sunny days over a morning coffee, afternoon tea or drink, and when it's chilly, the bar area has an open fire, leather chairs and casual tables. Head chef Stuart Downie cooks up some of the tastiest food in the South Hams, specialising in fresh fish and seafood such as whole bream, lemon sole, Fowey lobster, dressed Salcombe crab, Cornish hake and River Exe mussels. There are good meat and veggie options too, including beautifully cooked favourites such as caesar salad, scotch eggs, steaks, roast Spatchcock chicken and more-ish side dishes including chunky chips and peas with bacon and mint. Add to this a more than decent wine list and we can't think why you would go anywhere else. Service is friendly, and high chairs are provided. One of our favourites.
