Next to the church in the pretty village of Cerne Abbas, the 16th-century Royal Oak is a traditional pub serving local real ales and good quality pub meals. Its wood-beamed interior is decorated in typical country pub style with hanging jugs and horse brasses, and there’s a lovely beer garden too. The food is moderately priced and portions are generous – the home-made soups, in particular, are excellent. Service is friendly and dogs and children are welcome.
