Purbeck Film Festival
c/o Rex Cinema 14 West Street Wareham BH20 4JX
This tremendous film festival in October is the largest rural event of its kind, and it makes the most of its location by showing films at highly atmospheric and quirky venues that are considered ‘appropriate’ to the movie itself (think Saving Private Ryan at Bovington Tank Museum). There are open-air screenings at Corfe Castle, drive-in films and frequent talks by filmmakers themselves. The venues include the Rex Cinema in Wareham, the Lighthouse Poole, Durlston Castle, village halls, pubs including the Square and Compass at Worth and the Winchester in Bournemouth (Richmond Hill), the Grand Hotel and the Black Swan in Swanage.
