Flowers by Candlelight
Bournemouth Lower Gardens
The brainchild of the Empress Eugenie in Victorian times, the weekly lighting of candles in the Lower Gardens during summer has been a tradition for generations of children. Anyone can join in this free event, and light one of 15,000 coloured candles, which are then hung on frames in the shape of animals, cartoon characters and local landmarks. It’s followed by candlelit procession of children through the gardens.
