Rick Stein, Sandbanks
10-14 Banks Rd, Sandbanks, Poole, Dorset BH13 7QB
They say it's home to the priciest real taste in Britain, and no wonder – the sea and harbour views from the stick of land that juts across the entrance to Poole Harbour are wonderful, and the beach one of the best on the south coast, with golden sand and crystal-clear waters. Luckily you don't have have to be a millionaire to enjoy all this, not least at one of the latest additions to the Rick Stein chain of fish and seafood restaurants, which are gradually spreading to many of the most desirable places in the Southwest. Considering Rick's celebrity status, it's unsurprisingly popular, but rightly so too, for its formula of fresh and seafood, simply cooked, is a perfect fit with the Sandbanks location – right on the beach, with lovely views over the water. Chowing down on fruits de mer, Dover Sole or lovely local crab, you could almost imagine you were in Normandy or Spain, weather permitting, and it's moderately priced too. It also serves coffee and pastries every morning and a full breakfast menu at the weekend. A lovely place to start – or finish – the day. It's worth knowing, too, that dogs are welcome in the bar during the morning and at lunchtime, so it can be a nice conclusion to a walk on the beach.
