The Black Boy
Wharf Hill Winchester SO23 9NQ
The “Blackie” is the quirkiest pub in Winchester – its warren of higgledy-piggledy rooms, each with their own character are treasure troves of unusual antiquities and salvaged oddities. These finds include fire buckets, pine door covered ceilings, jars of preserved animals, huge old movie posters and signs and the most brilliant collection of taxidermy ranging from a giraffe's neck and donkey to sleeping dogs and a baboon. It specializes in good cask ales from local breweries and has a blazing log fire most of the year round. The food is great (try the fish finger sandwich and chips) and there’s sometimes live music (normally Blues or Irish folk) on Mondays. This is a fantastic boozer with a difference.
