The Chesil Rectory
1 Chesil Street Winchester SO23 0HU
Occupying the oldest house in Winchester – a Grade 2-listed, wood-beamed building dating to 1450 – the Chesil Rectory has been a successful restaurant for well over 50 years and is a champion of local produce. Rich, hearty dishes such as fricassee of New Forest rabbit helped earn it Hampshire Restaurant of the Year 2010 and the warm, friendly atmosphere helped it get into the top three of the most romantic pubs in Britain, a poll by The Times. It certainly is a charmer and open every day of the week you'll need a good excuse not to go. Make sure you book in advance though.
