St Catherine’s Hill
Garnier Road Winchester
South-west of the city centre – follow the River Itchen – the copse-topped peak of St Catherine’s Hill is the perfect place for a picnic on a soft summer’s evening. It’s a 20-minute climb to the summit, where you’ll be rewarded with tremendous views over the water meadows and the Hospital of St Cross and across the cathedral rooftop to the city beyond. It is only a short route and well worth it, especially if you become fed up of busy summer streets. Wander to this little spot of countryside on the most western tip of the South Downs National Park and enjoy the wonderful setting of this historic town.
