The Watercress Line
The Railway Station Alresford SO24 9JG
The historic, volunteer-run Watercress Line, officially known as the Mid Hants Steam Railway, trundles the 10 miles between the attractive provincial towns of Alton and Alresford. It’s a pleasant journey through bucolic countryside, even more so if you’re booked in for lunch in the dining car, or are on one of the twice-monthly “Real Ale Trains” that serve Hampshire beers along the way. The interiors of the trains are carefully restored and offer an authentic old team experience. Something different that sits perfectly in the context of historic Winchester.
