The Mucky Duck
84 Hyde Street Winchester Hampshire SO23 7DW
What do people want mostly want from a pub? A place to meet, sure, but they also want decent food and drink, served at sensible times each day, an environment with a teensy bit of style, preferably decorated within the last 500 years, and good, welcoming, friendly service, from people who seem to enjoy what they do. Not too much to ask is it? And we reckon it's a formula the the Hampshire-based Little Pub group not only believe in passionately but usually manage to execute pretty well. This Winchester location in their small local chain does all things very well, and is a nice place to watch sports on telly to boot. The environment is contemporary and comfy at the same time, they serve a deliberately simple menu consisting of the sort of food it's easy to eat while watching football or chatting to your mates – steak, fish finger, club sandwiches, burgers, salads, sharing boards and so-called 'retro baskets' of chicken or scampi and chips – none of it fancy but well prepared and tasty. There are comfy sofas to sink into and a good choice of ales and wine. What's not to like?
