The Cheese Society
1 St Martin’s Lane Lincoln LN2 1HY
This infinitely cosy little café may look a little humdrum from the outside, but the interior, with its pastel shades, is a real pleasure. Established in 2002, the Cheese Society has become something of a gastronomic landmark in Lincoln, its tasty creations focusing on all things cheesy – try, for example, the stilton, red wine and walnut pate. The café opens the day with hot and cold breakfasts till 11.30, when it switches into lunch mode. They have a license – so you can wash it all down with an inviting range of local (often organic) beers, ciders and even wines. Daily specials, always good value, are posted on a blackboard. One dish to look out for is the warm goats’ cheese, black olives and thyme pate. When you have finished eating, be sure to drop by the deli counter where they sell a wide range of cheese.
