Ryedale Show
Welburn Park Kirkbymoorside YO62 7HQ
For a real taste of the countryside, the annual Ryedale Show can't be beaten. It's been a calendar fixture since 1855 (on the last Tuesday every July), and while it started out as a place for local farmers to meet and trade, it's evolved into a day-long celebration of all that's important to the local agricultural community. The animal exhibition rings are still at the heart of the day, with prizes and trophies on offer for beautifully presented cattle, pigs, sheep, dogs, goats and horses – sometimes evem llamas. Sports, races, local crafts, vintage machinery, children's activities, trade stands, and food and drink tastings all form part of the fun, and if you're after a new tractor or a hand-painted milk churn this is definitely the place to find one. It's busy too – expect around 15,000 people to turn up to this rural agricultural festival on the outskirts of Kirkbymoorside.
