Like Forest Holidays' nearby Cropton site, this place has everything you need for a family holiday deep in the woods, in one of England's most scenic corners. There are 67 cabins here, from the fabulous Golden Oak Treehouse, which sleeps 8, to Golden Oak Cottage, which sleeps 2. All the cabins are extremely comfortable, equipped with a TV, wifi (an optional extra), fluffy robes in the en-suite (only included as a standard in the Golden Oak cabins), and some are wheelchair-accessible and pet-friendly.
The Forest Retreat is the hub of the site, with a café and bar, shop and children's play area; you can hire bikes here and also book with the Forest Ranger, who does wildlife-spotting and bushcraft tours of the site. What's also nice about Keldy is the host of activities and attractions on your doorstep – from the coast at Whitby and Scarborough to more woodland delights in Dalby Forest (where there's a Go Ape high-wire centre, among other things) and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, which runs vintage trains from Pickering to Whitby, taking in some enchanting countryside along the way. A brilliant family holiday. Period.
