Fox & Hounds
Sinnington YO62 6SQ
Just four miles outside Pickering, on the edge of the moors, the Fox & Hounds is one of those well-kept village pubs that you'd be happy to have as your local. Tucked away in tiny Sinnington, off the main Helmsley road, you need to know it's there, but once you do you'll be back whenever you want a decent meal in handsome surroundings. There's a traditional bar at its heart, with a heat-furnace of a double-sided log-burner, but the Fox & Hounds is more of a contemporary dining pub these days, with nice oak tables set throughout the place (and reservations a good idea in summer and at weekends). On the menu, we're talking posh pub food, whether that's ciabatta sandwiches with real chips, grilled salmon on saffron risotto, or rack of lamb with caramelised onion sauce. Portions are Yorkshire-sized and suppliers are resolutely local, most from within just a few miles.
