Treehouse Restaurant
Alnwick Garden Denwick Lane Alnwick NE66 1YU
At the core of Alnwick Garden's amazing Treehouse is the equally astounding Treehouse Restaurant, with its Robinson Crusoe feel, handcrafted furniture, open log fire and trees growing right through the restaurant floor. It's one of the coolest places to eat we've come across – kids are going to love it, though it's a pretty fair bet that grown-ups will come over all misty-eyed and nostalgic too at the first sight of the Treehouse ropewalks and wooden bridges. Lunch is served daily, and dinner four nights a week, with a Modern Brit menu that's strong on local produce, so expect things like local lamb casserole, bangers from an Alnwick butcher and fish from the coast, plus a couple of veggie options that change with the seasons. If you're not up for the full restaurant experience, the Treehouse bar, the Potting Shed, is just as funky and quirky and serves a lighter breakfast and lunch menu – plus, if you eat outside here, the kids can charge around on the walkways to their heart's content. In the evening, diners can have pre-dinner drinks or nightcaps in the bar instead. By the way, you don't have to pay to get into the garden to visit the Treehouse – you'll see the signs on the way up to the main entrance.
