Waterfront Fishouse Restaurant
No 1 Railway Pier Oban PA34 4LW
If Oban is the Seafood Capital of Scotland (as it quite justifiably proclaims), then the Waterfront is its seat of government. This trim wee oasis reclines just behind Scotland’s busiest ferry terminal, with views out over the ferries and towards the tempting isles. The seafood is fresh and local, and with lump langoustines ‘caught daily by Gordon the Prawn’, wonderfully creamy, salty oysters from just up the road at Loch Creran and huge king scallops from just across the water on Mull. Mercifully the shellfish is largely left to speak for itself, but when the Waterfront gets creative that works too. The standout dish is ‘Fishouse Finest’, a fillet of trendy rock turbot, hake fillet and Mull scallops on a bed of creamy asparagus laden risotto.
