The Isle of Jura is a truly special place and at the heart of a local community numbering less than 100 is this superb whisky distillery. Unlike neighbouring Islay, the malts conjured up here are soft and less fiery than you might be used to, and the whitewashed distillery itself is a wee gem and great for photos. You can just visit, take a tour, buy a unique bottling from their on site shop or if you are feeling really flash rent out their luxury lodge if you have a spare £2500 a night! You do get to wake up smelling of whisky though. The best time to come is in May when both islands are alive with the annual whisky festival.
