Glencoe
Glencoe, Highland
Perhaps the most dramatic glen in Scotland, draped in romance and history, sweeping Glencoe is a gem, whether you are a skilled mountaineer taking on the high peaks, a low-level walker, a cyclist screaming seawards or just driving through by car. It drops steeply towards the water in a collage of rugged mountains, tumbling burns and sheer rock. The Clachaig Inn provides refreshments, although not if your name is Campbell. The modern National Trust for Scotland visitor centre tells the tale of the glen and puts everything in context at the foot of this natural wonder.
