Cairngorm Brewery
Dalfaber Industrial Estate Aviemore PH22 1ST
An oasis of coolness in a very understated corner of an industrial estate to the north of Aviemore – surrounded by factories but still overlooked by the snow-capped peaks of the Cairngorms – this microbrewery produces a surprising number (of top-quality craft beers, which are proudly pulled and poured in pubs, restaurants, bars and cafes all around Aviemore and well beyond. Most popular, it seems – based on the number of venues that pull it and the number of punters that pour it into themselves – is the smooth and citrusy Tradewinds. However, it's hard not to try ales with names like Nessie's Monster Mash and Sheepshagger's Gold. We've been through the entire list and haven't had a bad pint yet. The brewery is open for tours and tastings throughout the week and at weekends by appointment. A 20-barrel Brewhouse, capable of producing 6500 litres of beer every day, this is a working brewery, so tour numbers are limited. You do, however, get to sup a dozen delicious types of beer while being educated about the brewing process – which is well worth £3 of anyone's money .
